What you should know about back pain and Omicron

The Ministry of Health (Singapore) just announced that sales of tickets for vaccinated travel lane (VTL) flights and buses will stop from 23 Dec to 20 Jan. This is an attempt to control the number of imported Omicron COVID-19 cases in Singapore.

What is Omicron?

Omicron is a variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. According to World Health Organisation, the Omicron variant spreads more easily than the original virus. It is still unknown how this variant compares to the Delta variant.

How is Singapore coping with Omicron?

There are at least 71 confirmed Omicron cases in Singapore. 65 of which are imported while six cases are local. The Ministry of Health (MOH) has also indicated the possibility of an Anytime Fitness Bukit Timah cluster.

The latest advisory from MOH (Remaining Vigilant Against  the Omicron Variant) is largely targeted at travelers. They are also encouraging everyone to receive their vaccination or booster dose when offered.

What does Omicron has to do with back pain?

If you are experiencing lower back pain together with other COVID-associated symptoms and you are unsure what to do, do head to MOH’s website to complete their I am not sure what do questionnaire.

Do note that the Home Recovery Programme is the default care arrangement for everyone in Singapore. Unless indicated for, do not call 995 or head to the hospital.

Chiropractic adjustments do not help you fight COVID

Lastly, we would like to remind everyone that despite claims from some erroneous chiropractors, spinal manipulations DO NOT help reduce your risk of COVID in any meaningful ways.

While some studies were able to show marginal improvement in immunity post-adjustments, these improvements are transient, and do not improve your immunity in any meaningful way.
